Guide to Reading Solar Proposals

How to Read a Solar Proposal

A solar proposal is a document that outlines the details of a proposed solar energy project. It is typically prepared by a solar energy contractor or provider and is presented to a homeowner, business owner, or other potential customer. The proposal includes information about the size and design of the solar panel system, the estimated energy production and financial savings, the equipment to be used, warranty information, cost breakdown, payment terms, installation timeline, and maintenance requirements.

Designing A Sustainable Future

The country is like any other living organism. It contains its own environment and ecosystems. Now and then, like any other organism, the country gets damaged, overused, or even erodes with time. To make the country last longer, we try to repair it. Designing a sustainable future does just that. It's medicine, an antidote to improve the well-being of the country and the tiny cells (us) who depend on it. But to understand how to medicate the country, we should understand its symptoms first.

What would it cost to set up a solar power system at home?

The price of installing solar panels varies depending on the region, style of rooftop, and kind of panels utilized. Although more expensive up front, premium solar panels with high efficiency and beneficial warranties provide more potential for long-term savings such as reduced cost of electricity bills, carbon footprint, and annual energy expenditure.

Zero Waste Movement

Zero waste is an ethos and an end goal that seeks to reduce waste and conserve resources through responsible production, consumption, reuse, and recovery. It can have a number of benefits, such as reducing the impact of waste on the environment, conserving natural resources, and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. India is working towards zero waste through municipal solid waste management, plastic waste management, community-based initiatives, government initiatives, and business initiatives.

Why Companies Should Follow Sustainable Practices?

A good part of the earth is disappearing in service of large industries. There is a continuous loss of water, soil, and crop. Climate change causes natural calamities, barren land, and crop growth. This also leads to civil strife and obstructs companies from their suppliers worldwide.

In 2004, Coca-Cola shut down its industries in India due to water shortage.  In 2011, floods in Thailand drowned over 160 textile industries. Nearly 25% of the textile industry of the country was wiped out. Due to water distribution issues in Peru, 21 billion USD in oil mining projects have been suspended. Companies'  decisions cause environmental damage. Like domino pieces, society and the economy take the next hit.

Adoption of Sustainable Living in India

In India, sustainable development consists of a diverse range of policy interventions in the social, clean technology (clean energy, clean water, and sustainable agriculture), and human resources sectors. India is also expected to start replanting its national income accounting, making natural capital wealth depletion a fundamental component in its computation of GDP.

Despite extensive deforestation, commercialization of green lands, and open-air emission of noxious substances, there are endeavors by rare people that practice sustainable living. A major portion of the country's population still lives in villages, some of which have developed as centers of experimentation on sustainable living throughout the years.

Affordability and Efficiency of Solar Power Plant at Home

Solar energy was once viewed as a minor source of electricity. However, it is one of the primary driving forces for the transition to a cleaner, more sustainable lifestyle.

According to a TERI

study solar power cost will fall to Rs 1.9 per unit in India by 2030 it also states that "India can achieve 30% of variable RE generation by 2030 (wind and solar), and 45% zero-carbon generation, including hydro and nuclear".

A Comprehensive Guide to Understanding & Applying for Net Metering

When you purchase a solar panel or PV system, you have the option of installing an on-grid or off-grid solar system. An on-grid system is connected to a local grid owned by the state, while an off-grid system is connected to a battery.

Why Is This Important?

Electricity is also a substance. It needs to have storage space.

Ideal Conditions For Profitable Solar Power Use

If your home electric appliances are organs, then the solar panel is the heart. It powers the whole house by using what plants use - sunlight! Solar panels work for decades without much maintenance. You no longer need to depend on state-manufactured electricity, bills, or power cuts. A simple, sleek machine now can look after all your electricity needs.

Such an important instrument needs careful planning and correct care. This will make the heart of your house robust. Here are the things you should know for helping your solar panel operate in the best way possible:

Use Monocrystalline Solar Cells

A monocrystalline solar cell has a single silicon crystal while polycrystalline has multiple. The former produces 6.93 watts per square foot more energy than the latter. A monocrystalline cell allows for better electron movement as only a single crystal exists. Multiple crystals decelerate movement, thus producing lesser energy. It is advisable to carefully browse through the monocrystalline options in the market.

On-grid or off-grid?

An on-grid solar PV system means you will need battery storage and a back-up generator to help with the hard days. Sometimes, your solar panel may store more energy than you need. In such cases, you can transfer it to a battery storage unit for later use. But if it's not a lithium battery, overcharging may lead to the release of hydrogen gas which is lethal. Also, if you need more than what the solar panel can produce, you may need a generator. It is better to invest in an on-grid solar panel as you can wire the extra energy to the state and receive a reimbursement (this is called feed-in-tariff) for the current you supply. If in case you fall short, you can ask the government to look after the extra supply for a fee. This process is called net metering.

Keep Away From Dirt

Debris blocks sunlight and prevents the PV cells from reacting. Make sure that the glass pane is always clear of dirt. Dirt can lower functioning by 10%. Do not be afraid of the rains, the water is useful for keeping the panels clean and smooth.

Heat is an issue

Though India is sunny, it is also very warm. In hot temperatures (31 deg. Celsius +), the production of electricity by solar panels drops by 30 percent of their rated energy output. We suggest keeping the inverter and other parts in shade, choosing reflective material, raising the panel a few inches from the ground for air circulation, and spraying water as it reduces the temperature by 8 degrees. These are great ways to reduce the temperature. We believe that the backsheet of the panel should be researched carefully as it insulates the solar cells from heat.

Ensure the rooftop floor is new

Old flooring may not sustain the weight of the solar panel. Once installed, it is difficult to renovate in the future as it means reinstalling the solar panels. That's expensive! This precaution will keep solar panels working for 25 years and more! Additionally, it is crucial to check how much weight the roof can bear.

No shade, please!

Make sure the panel is not under the shade of any structure like buildings, trees, or utility poles.

Slant the roof

Slope the roof by 10 -- 30 degrees as this helps water run off the panel. Or you can erect the panel in the northern direction for optimal use.

Calculate your energy needs

Each silicon cell generates 0.5 V. There are about 36 -- 72 cells in one panel. Please calculate how much energy you consume on average per day and decide on how many panels you will require.

On-Grid and Off-Grid Power Plants

Off-grid and on-grid solar energy systems differ in their ability to obtain power, equipment required for extra production, what happens when the grid goes down, and how they are billed. Off-grid connections provide the most access to power but are more expensive due to the additional hardware required. Off-grid solar systems provide independence from power outages, lower energy bills, and easy installation, making them the perfect substitute for outlying areas and green and safe for the planet, this article gives a comprehensive view about the same.
