Solar installation cost in Delhi 2026: 3 kW, 5 kW and 10 kW prices
Ask five solar companies for a quote in Delhi and you may get five different numbers. That isn't necessarily a red flag; system cost depends on the panel brand, inverter type, mounting structure, roof height and after-sales package you choose, not just the kW size.
This guide gives realistic price ranges for the most common home system sizes, with and without subsidy, and explains what actually drives the price up or down so you can compare quotes properly.

Quick answer: solar installation cost in Delhi
| System size | Cost without subsidy (approx.) | Cost after subsidy (approx.) |
|---|---|---|
| 2 kW | ₹1.95 lakh | ₹1.15–1.65 lakh |
| 3 kW | ₹2.25 lakh | ₹1.12–1.55 lakh |
| 5 kW | ₹3.30 lakh | ₹1.80–2.25 lakh |
| 10 kW | ₹5.93 lakh | ₹3.25–4.85 lakh |
These are indicative, base-variant figures gathered from published installer pricing across 2025–26, not a single fixed rate. Actual prices vary by installer, equipment and site conditions, and the "after subsidy" range also depends on which Delhi state subsidy figure applies at the time you install; see the note below.
A note on the subsidy figure used in these prices
Two subsidy figures are currently in circulation for Delhi:
- The Delhi Solar Portal's state subsidy page currently lists ₹10,000 per kW, capped at ₹30,000 for residential households.
- Some installer pricing pages still use an older or differently sourced Delhi subsidy figure of ₹30,000, alongside the central subsidy of up to ₹78,000, giving a combined subsidy of roughly ₹1.08 lakh for 3 kW and above.
- A September 2026 Cabinet amendment is reported to raise the Delhi subsidy for an eligible 3 kW system to ₹78,000, with a top-up for qualifying households. This is not yet reflected on the state subsidy page at the time of writing.
Because of this, treat the "after subsidy" prices above as a range rather than a fixed number, and confirm the exact combined subsidy for your system size on the Delhi Solar Portal or in our Delhi solar subsidy guide before budgeting.
3 kW solar system price in Delhi
A 3 kW system suits a small home with moderate consumption, typically households with a bill in the ₹2,000 to ₹4,000 range before solar.
| Item | Approx. cost |
|---|---|
| System cost without subsidy | ~₹2.25 lakh |
| Central subsidy | Up to ₹78,000 |
| Delhi state subsidy | ₹30,000 (portal figure) to ₹78,000 (reported 2026 amendment, unconfirmed) |
| Cost after subsidy | Roughly ₹1.12–1.55 lakh, depending on which state subsidy applies |
| Typical monthly generation | Roughly 300–360 units under good conditions |
See our Delhi solar subsidy guide for eligibility and how to apply.
5 kW solar system price in Delhi
A 5 kW system is a common choice for independent houses and larger flats with air conditioning, typically households with bills in the ₹6,000 to ₹10,000 range.
| Item | Approx. cost |
|---|---|
| System cost without subsidy | ~₹3.30 lakh |
| Combined subsidy | Roughly ₹1.08 lakh (central + current state cap) |
| Cost after subsidy | Roughly ₹1.80–2.25 lakh |
| Typical monthly generation | Roughly 550–650 units under good conditions |

10 kW solar system price in Delhi
A 10 kW system typically suits larger independent houses, homes with high AC load, or small commercial premises.
| Item | Approx. cost |
|---|---|
| System cost without subsidy | ~₹5.93 lakh |
| Combined subsidy | Central subsidy is capped at ₹78,000; the Delhi state subsidy is generally capped at a fixed amount regardless of size above 3 kW, so the subsidy share of total cost falls as system size grows |
| Cost after subsidy | Roughly ₹3.25–4.85 lakh |
| Typical monthly generation | Roughly 1,100–1,300 units under good conditions |
Above roughly 10 kW, homes increasingly move into commercial or industrial-style sizing and net-metering considerations. If you're weighing a larger system, check your sanctioned load first; our net metering in Delhi guide explains why this matters before you finalise capacity.
What actually drives the price up or down?
The kW rating tells you output, not what you're paying for. The line items below explain most of the spread between quotes:
| Factor | How it affects price |
|---|---|
| Panel technology | TOPCon and HJT panels typically cost more than standard Mono PERC but offer higher efficiency and slower degradation |
| Panel brand and ALMM listing | ALMM-listed, Make-in-India panels are required for the central subsidy; branded panels cost more than unlisted alternatives |
| Inverter type | String inverters are generally cheaper; microinverters or hybrid inverters (for battery-ready systems) cost more |
| Mounting structure height | Elevated structures, needed for water-tank roofs or shading avoidance, add cost over a standard low structure |
| Roof type and strengthening | RCC roofs with adequate load capacity are cheapest; sheet roofs or roofs needing reinforcement add cost |
| After-sales service and warranty | Extended service plans, savings guarantees and longer AMC coverage add to the headline price |
| DISCOM and net-metering charges | Feasibility and meter charges are generally waived for small residential systems but can apply above certain thresholds |
| Vendor overheads | Established installers with dedicated subsidy and net-metering support may price higher than smaller local vendors |
Sample payback timeline
Payback depends heavily on your actual consumption pattern and tariff slab, but a common range reported by Delhi installers for a well-sized system after subsidy is roughly 3.5 to 5 years. Systems that offset a larger share of high-slab summer consumption tend to pay back faster than ones that mostly offset low-slab winter use. Our Delhi electricity bill breakdown explains how the slabs work, and the ROI calculator can model your own numbers.
What should a solar quotation include?
Before comparing prices across vendors, make sure each quote states:
- System size and expected annual generation (with the assumptions used)
- Panel brand, wattage, technology (Mono PERC, TOPCon, HJT) and ALMM status
- Inverter brand, type and warranty
- Mounting structure type and height
- Net-metering and DISCOM liaison scope, and who bears the cost of delays
- What subsidy amount is assumed, and whether the vendor files it on your behalf
- AMC or after-sales terms, and what is excluded
- Payment schedule and any financing terms
A lower headline price with a basic structure and no service plan is not necessarily cheaper than a slightly higher quote that includes elevated structure, a longer warranty and full subsidy handling. Our buying guide on the installation process explains what to expect at each stage.

Frequently asked questions
What is the cost of a 3 kW solar system in Delhi after subsidy?
Roughly ₹1.12 to ₹1.55 lakh, depending on which Delhi state subsidy figure applies at the time of installation and the equipment chosen. Confirm the current combined subsidy on the Delhi Solar Portal before budgeting.
What is the cost of a 5 kW solar system in Delhi after subsidy?
Roughly ₹1.80 to ₹2.25 lakh, based on a system cost of about ₹3.30 lakh before subsidy and a combined central and state subsidy of around ₹1.08 lakh.
What is the cost of a 10 kW solar system in Delhi after subsidy?
Roughly ₹3.25 to ₹4.85 lakh, based on a system cost of about ₹5.93 lakh before subsidy. The subsidy makes up a smaller share of total cost at this size since the central and state subsidies are capped.
Why do solar quotes for the same kW size vary so much?
Because panel technology, brand, inverter type, mounting structure, roof work and after-sales service all differ between vendors, even for the same rated capacity.
Is a cheaper quote always a worse deal?
Not necessarily, but check what is included. A lower price with a basic structure, no elevated mounting where needed, and no service plan can end up costing more later in maintenance and lost generation.
How long does it take to pay back a solar system in Delhi?
Commonly reported paybacks after subsidy are around 3.5 to 5 years, depending on your consumption pattern, tariff slab and system sizing.
